The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, brought some clarity to the issue of the timing of the restoration of car production in Russia. According to him, foreign companies that have suspended their activities have been given time until the beginning of June to decide how they will work.

“We expect that within a maximum of May they will come to a final decision and no later than June we must come to a common denominator with them”– said Denis Manturov.
He added that the Russian authorities do not lay claim to someone else’s property, but consider it acceptable to transfer management to local participants when foreign business leaves. “It is acceptable to make a decision to give control to local management, as Daimler civilly acted in relation to its cargo division, transferring it to the management of Kamaz. It suits us – said the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. – We do not lay claim to someone else’s property, we do not need it, but it is impossible to keep labor collectives in a state where they are simply paid wages. We don’t want qualifications to be lost.”.
According to Denis Manturov, Chinese and Korean manufacturers, Haval, Kia and Hyundai, continue to assemble cars in Russia.
Haval [продолжает производство в РФ]. Hyundai, Kia have stocks, production is maintained at Avtotor, they produce, it just decreased (production). Plus, Hyundai in St. Petersburg is gaining some volume”– he said.
Recall that earlier a number of automakers announced the suspension of production and supply of cars in the Russian Federation. Among them are Renault, Toyota, Lexus, BMW, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, WAG (Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Skoda), Stellantis (owns 14 brands, including Citroёn, Fiat, Opel and Peugeot), Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo , Scania, Daimler Truck.
According to the Association of European Businesses, sales in Russia in the first quarter of 2022 fell by 28.4% compared to the same period last year. In March, 55,129 vehicles were sold, down 62.9% from a year earlier.
