Foreign Minister: Greece condemns Guinea-Bissau coup attempt

Greece, in a post of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter, strongly condemns yesterday’s coup attempt to overthrow the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoko Empalo.

He also welcomed the country’s return to stability and expressed its continued support for the people and democratic authorities of Guinea-Bissau.

According to the APE-MPE, the president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoko Empalo, assured that his government has brought the situation under control, after the attempted coup that took place earlier. It is the tenth time a coup or coup attempt has taken place in this West African country of about two million people since gaining independence from Portugal in 1974. Only one democratically elected president has completed his term, according to the telegram.
