Ukraine and Russia accused each other at the meeting of the Security Council UN of Tuesday, for the tension at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.
As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out in its statement, Greece is closely monitoring the developments regarding the issue of the safety of the nuclear power plant facilities in Zaporizhia. Ukraine, as well as any leakage nuclear energy in the aftermath of the conflicts it would have disastrous consequences.

Possible leakage will constitute environmental disaster both for the region itself, where part of the Greek Community of Ukraine lives, as well as internally displaced persons from Mariupolibut of course also for the rest of Europe, including our country, the announcement states.

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias he had discussed this issue during the meeting he had with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi last March in Vienna. In this context, Greece strongly supports the appeal of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for the security of the facilities.
