Foreign trade surplus of goods reaches CAD 1,040 million in February

In February, Canada’s goods trade posted a surplus of CAD 1.04 billion, down from the 1.2 billion in January, according to data released by Statistics Canada on Wednesday. This reading was higher than expected which was for a surplus of one billion.

In February, Canada’s merchandise exports decreased 2.7%, while imports fell 2.4%. Canada’s trade deficit with countries other than the United States widened from 4.7 billion in January to 5.7 billion in February. The surplus with the US widened to 6.8 billion, the highest since September 2008.
