The Goiás Military Fire Department and the state’s Military Police responded to several cases of forest fires and arrests related to criminal burning in cities in Goiás this Saturday (7). In total, the corporation received 40 calls throughout the day.
According to firefighters, the corporation received a call to fight a fire on the banks of BR-364, which had started in a corn straw area in the municipality of Portelândia (GO).
Smoke from the fire made visibility on the highway difficult, causing the road to be closed in both directions for almost two hours until the fires were controlled and visibility improved.
According to the corporation, a driver lost his bearings and left the road. In the vehicle, there were two men and a woman, who suffered burns and were taken to an Emergency Care Unit.
The Military Police also made arrests due to arson attacks on vegetation in the cities of Mineiros and Caldas Novas. In Mineiros, a tip-off led officers to an urban area where an individual set fire to a pasture.
In the city of Caldas Novas, a team from the Environmental Police Battalion responded to a call from residents, who reported a fire in an urban area caused by a man who had a lighter.
In total, three people were arrested yesterday on suspicion of setting fire to areas of vegetation.
