Forex Today – Asian Session: Dollar Ends First Quarter Strong

What you need to know on Thursday, April 1:

The dollar ends March with substantial gains against most major rivals, and close to new yearly highs against the EUR and JPY. Yields were down daily but ended the month near multi-month highs. Yields on the 10-year note were above 1.70%.

The pound rose on Wednesday as the UK’s Gross Domestic Product was revised up from 1% to 1.3%. In addition, Total Business Investment in the same quarter registered 5.9%, much better than the 1.3% previously estimated.

Gold also advanced, peaking at $ 1,715 for the day and ending at $ 1,706.00 a troy ounce. Crude prices fell and the WTI closed the day at around $ 59.20 a barrel.

Wall Street closed in the green, with the Nasdaq strongly higher, but the Dow and the S&P posted modest gains.

Coronavirus: French President Emmanuel Macron announced a national shutdown for at least a month starting Saturday, as the health system is in trouble while the number of new infections continues to rise. Brazil detected a new variant, similar to the South African one, while Pfizer announced that its vaccine is 100% effective in adolescents, after completing phase three of trials in children aged 12 to 15 years.
