Former Argentine president Cristina Kirchner is prohibited from entering the US

In a decision announced on Friday (21), the US government banned former Argentine president Cristina Kirchner from entering US territory. The measure was motivated by what Washington called “involvement in significant corruption.”

A statement published by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reports that the decision also hits former Argentine Planning Minister Julio Miguel de Vido.

Also according to the statement, immediate family members of Cristina and the former minister are also ineligible for entry into the United States.

Cristina Kirchner was president of Argentina for two terms, between 2007 and 2011 and from 2011 to 2015. In 2007, she took over the pink after the end of the management of her husband, the late Nestor Kirchner.

Between 2019 and 2023, Cristina occupied the vice presidency of Argentina during the term of Alberto Fernández.
