The former president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, announced in a video released this Sunday (26) on his social networks that he will not participate in the next presidential elections.
“I will not be a candidate in the next elections. And I do so with the conviction that we must expand the political space for the change we have initiated,” Macri said in the video.
The former president said that Argentina is in a state that is difficult to recognize, adrift, where millions are afraid of losing their jobs.
In the midst of this analysis, he stated that “an important part of the citizens decided to believe in messianic leaders… It ended up being very harmful for the country, with disproportionate power… I am convinced that this dark time has begun to end”.
“Argentines have matured… we are not going to let ourselves be trampled by populism,” said the former president in reference to the upcoming elections.
Macri did not give concrete details about his political future.
