Former BBB Matteus entered an engineering course through the racial quota system, says university

The former participant of TV Globo’s Big Brother Brasil (BBB), Matteus Amaral, joined the Agricultural Engineering course at the Federal Institute of Science and Technology Farroupilha (IFFar) in 2014, after having signed up for vacancies destined for brown candidates. and black.

The information was confirmed to CNN by means of a note, by the institution itself.

Also according to IFFar, the information is available in a notice for the year 2014. The institute concluded by saying that the course is no longer offered by them, in partnership with Unipampa, since 2021 and that Matteus is no longer a student at the university.

In the statement, IFFar highlights the changes in the Quota Law. “At that time, according to the 2012 Quota Law, the only document required to register for quotas was the candidate’s self-declaration. As in other federal educational institutions, there was no mechanism for verifying or proving the candidate’s declaration.”

Also according to the institute, an excerpt from the 2014 notice contained the following warning: “the discovery of any type of fraud in carrying out the process subjects the candidate to loss of the place and the penalties of the Law, at any time, even after registration” .

IFFar explains that, at the time, the only possible mechanism for investigating fraud would be through a complaint, which was not done during the entire period in which Matteus attended the course.

Matteus Amaral reached the final of BBB 24, ending the program in second place, behind the winner Davi Brito. During his participation, the gaucho raised by his grandmother gained a reputation as a “good guy” and won the hearts of two participants, Deniziane Ferreira, at the beginning of the game, and Isabelle Nogueira, with whom he still maintains a relationship. At home, he became known as Alegrete, for making a point of promoting the culture of his hometown.

A CNN contacted Matteus’s office, but has not received a position on the case so far.
