Former British Foreign Secretary: Erdogan is not stupid – Energy reserves should be shared with the Law of the Sea

The former British Foreign Secretary, Lord Owen, gave an interview and addressed her issues Eastern Mediterraneanemphasizing that the energetically reserves must be shared among the states involved based on what the Law of the sea.

“The problem is that there is natural gas and oil in Greek territorial watersat Turkish waters, of Cyprusher Syriaof Lebanonof Israel and her Egypt. Everyone must agree, otherwise it is impossible to have economic co-exploitation. These important energy reserves must be shared based on the Law of the Sea“, he characteristically said.

He also referred to the attitude of Recep Tayyip Erdoganemphasizing that the Turkish president is playing “games” in order to get what he wants and that so far he has achieved “some success”.

Erdogan knows this, he is not stupid and plays various games with some success. But it is time for him to show his commitment to NATO and express that faith,” said the former British foreign minister.

He also meaningfully added that “being a NATO member is not a right. He has obligations through NATO membership and we have to remind him of that.”
