Actor Jander Veeck, known for playing the orphan Zeca in the first Brazilian version of the soap opera “Chiquititas”, celebrated his son Matteo’s 1st birthday last Saturday (14).
On Instagram, the artist and his wife, Manoella Aquino Veeck, reported the experience they had with their baby admitted to the neonatal ICU during the first five months of his life.
Premature, Matteo, who was born weighing just 584 grams and 30 centimeters, required special medical care and experienced several complications. “365 days of Matteo. Of these 365, 152 were spent in the neonatal ICU, where each day was like an eternity. 152 days of not knowing what would be the next day, the next hours, minutes”, they began.
“So many things we had to learn from one moment to the next, to keep up with our little kids and (try) to prepare ourselves for any situation that could arise. Countless intubations because he still couldn’t breathe on his own, but he still managed to remove the tube with his tiny cunning hands to liven up the shift”, they added.

The couple also said that the baby underwent eight blood transfusions, in addition to suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest.
“Countless infections, bacteria, fungus, two necrotizing enterocolitis, atelectasis, eight blood transfusions, apneas, ‘run because Matteo is blue’, push, nebulize with adrenaline, go back to the tube, bradycardia, tachycardia, saturation drops , recovers saturation, ‘Matteo is lethargic, it must be anemia again’, has a transfusion, returns to normal, for cardiorespiratory, seizure, bilateral inguinal hernia, surgery, learning to breastfeed”.
According to them, when the little one was discharged from hospital, the medical report had nine pages detailing the period. “We gained 40 grams, but lost 60, gained 15, lost 5, and so we went, day after day, from 584 grams at birth, reaching 420, until we left with 2,535”, they celebrated.
“Post-operative and a new stop, 6 minutes, despair, tears, prayer 24 hours a day, central access, thromboembolism, enoxaparin, countless scars and today I kiss each one of them while telling him how strong he is”, they said.

Resilience
In the comments, Manoella said that she is very grateful to each of the people who helped her.
“I don’t think there was a person in that ICU who didn’t hug me in moments of despair. I have a list of thanks and I will never forget everyone who was a shoulder to lean on while the ground opened up and I didn’t know what else to do”, he thanked.
Finally, Jander also reinforced how grateful he is for his son’s choice. “[…] How great our Matteo is. Our superhero arrived in this world teaching us what it means to be truly strong. He showed us that our only option was to be strong with him and so it was. I love you my beloved son, thank you for choosing us,” he concluded.
