Iranian President Massoud Pezheskian named former foreign minister, architect of the international agreement on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program from the Iranian side, Mohammad Javad Zarif, as his vice president and adviser on strategic affairs, official Iranian media reported Thursday. In this position, “you will be responsible for monitoring major national and international developments as well as the degree of success in achieving the government’s goals,” Mr. Pezeskian said in the letter naming Mr. Zarif to the post, according to state news agency IRNA. Considered close to the reformers, however as a former without open conscription, Mr. Zarif was the head of Iranian diplomacy from 2013 to 2021, during the days of the moderate Hassan Rouhani in the presidency.
