The death of the former president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge mourns world sports.
The Belgian agent, an orthopedist by profession, passed away today (29/8), at the age of 79.
On July 16, 2001, Jacques Rogge was elected the 8th President of the IOC and remained in the presidency until September 10, 2013, when he was succeeded by the current President, the German Thomas Bach.
From 1989 to 1992, Jacques Rogge was President of the Belgian Olympic Committee.
Jacques Rogge is known to Greek men and women, as during his presidency in the IOC, the Athens Olympic Games were held in 2004.
“The IOC is deeply saddened to announce the death of former President Jacques Rogge,” the International Olympic Committee said in a statement.

He had represented Belgium in rugby and was a world champion in sailing.
Rog leaves behind a wife, Anne, a daughter, a son and two grandchildren.
«First of all, Jacques loved sports and socializing with athletes – and he passed on his passion to everyone who knew him.» said Thomas Bach, his successor in the presidency, in a statement from the ILO.
