Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is admitted to the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, according to four sources interviewed by the Reuters news agency on Friday (9).
This is a new hospitalization, for medical examinations, less than a month after his last discharge.
Last month, Berlusconi, 86, was discharged from hospital after six weeks of treatment for a lung infection linked to chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia.
The former Italian prime minister’s health has deteriorated sharply in recent years, with open-heart surgery in 2016 and numerous hospital stays since contracting Covid-19 three years ago.
Berlusconi was Prime Minister of Italy three times – between 1994 and 1995, 2001 and 2006 and 2008 and 2011. Although he does not have a direct role in the current government, his Forza Italia party is a member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing coalition .
