Former Manchester United footballer Anderson Luís de Abreu Oliveira is under investigation for money laundering involving cryptocurrencies. The Brazilian midfielder who left the football club in 2020 is one of eight people allegedly involved in money laundering operations in the amount of 35 million reais ($ 6.5 million).

The central court of the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre on August 17 accepted the complaint of the state attorney Rio Grande do Sul against Anderson and seven other people. The group is accused of trying to launder up to R $ 35 million from the Brazilian stock exchange. In part, the proceeds were laundered through the acquisition of bitcoins.

Anderson has declared his innocence, confirming that he has owned the cryptocurrency since 2019. His company sold BTC to one of the group members, but the footballer was not aware of the origin of the money.

Recall that in July, the Brazilian police confiscated 172 million reais ($ 33 ​​million) during an investigation into money laundering through local cryptocurrency exchanges. The names of the exchanges were not disclosed.
