Retired British General Sir Richard Siref, a former deputy commander of NATO forces in Europe, has expressed deep doubts about Russia’s compliance with its commitment to reduce its operations against the Ukrainian cities of Kiev and Chernihiv.
“It is almost certainly a recognition that the attempt to advance on several axes at the same time has failed and is likely to foreshadow a concentration of forces elsewhere,” he said, without ruling out any deception by the Kremlin.
“As long as Putin remains in the Kremlin, there can be no peace in Europe,” he said, calling him a “blood-stained tyrant.”
General Sirev stressed that the North Atlantic Alliance must ensure that the war with Russia “will remain cold and not hot”, noting that the alliance must prepare for a real war at all levels.
“We have not yet seen the increase in capabilities that I consider necessary if NATO is to be able to repel any further attack,” he said.
