A former chief financial officer at OceanGate – the company responsible for the Titan submarine, which imploded last month, killing all five passengers on board – said in an interview with The New Yorker, who resigned after CEO Stockton Rush offered her the position of chief pilot of the submarine.
Rush, one of the victims in the submarine tragedy, reportedly offered the job to the woman, who declined to be named, shortly after firing the pilot originally hired to do so, David Lochridge, after he raised concerns about the vessel’s safety.
The company terminated his employment and sued Lochridge and his wife in 2018, alleging that he shared confidential information, misappropriated trade secrets and used the company for immigration assistance, and then invented a reason to be fired. Lochridge alleges he was wrongfully fired for raising concerns about the Titan’s safety and testing.
The former director said she was concerned when Rush offered her the pilot job. “I was scared that he wanted me to be chief pilot, as my background is in accounting,” she told her to The New Yorker.
