Former president of Embrapa, Silvio Crestana is quoted to resume post

Former president and researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) Silvio Crestana is the most quoted name to resume the post in the new government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), found out CNN .

According to interlocutors linked to Lula and the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, the invitation to Crestana has already been made. However, there has yet to be an official response.

Crestana was president of Embrapa between January 2005 and July 2009, during Lula’s previous terms.

He has been a career researcher since 1984 and works at Embrapa Instrumentação Agropecuária, which he helped found, in São Carlos, in the State of São Paulo.

He holds a degree in Physics, a Master’s in Basic Physics and a PhD in Physics Applied to Soils.

In a transfer ceremony, upon taking over the Ministry of Agriculture for good, Carlos Fávaro stated that one of his commitments is to “strengthen” Embrapa. The ceremony took place this week at the auditorium of Embrapa headquarters, in Brasília.

“It is to make Embrapa continue to be, and even greater, the pride of all Brazilians. May it prepare our agriculture and livestock with a great moment of solution in the fight against hunger, sustainable production”, he declared.
