Former Schoeble’s former close associate, Martin Juger, take over the leadership of Germany’s intelligence services today

The leadership of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) is being taken over today by 61 -year -old Martin Jger, until now the country’s ambassador to Kiev. The main mission of the new leader will be to restore the reputation of German intelligence services, which is, inter alia, the failure to warn in a timely manner of Russia’s intention to invade Ukraine. As a career diplomat, Mr Jagger served as a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in 2005-2008 under Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Immediately afterwards he left the ministry to work as head of Daimler’s Foreign Relations Department, from where he returned to appoint an ambassador to Kabul for the period 2013-14. By 2016 he was a close associate of Wolfgang Schoible at the Ministry of Finance and was a spokesman for the Greek crisis, with constant intervention – often in a strong style.
