Former SEC Official Will Work For Coinbase

Former director of trade at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Brett Redfern has taken over as vice president of Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange for products and capital markets.

The appointment comes ahead of Coinbase’s direct listing on the Nasdaq exchange. In anticipation of this event, the exchange faced claims from the regulator and paid a $ 6.5 million fine.

Redfern will be “responsible for shaping and implementing a strategy to create a global standard for cryptocurrency capital markets, including digital asset-backed securities and a trading platform.”

According to the WSJ, the top manager’s area of responsibility also includes foreign exchange operations, brokerage and custody services.

At the SEC, Redfern led a department of 250 employees and developed the rules for the cryptocurrency markets. Prior to that, he worked for JPMorgan Bank for 13 years.

Former SEC chief Jay Clayton has joined the regulatory advisory board for hedge fund One River Asset Management.

Binance previously hired two ex-leaders of the Financial Action Group against Money Laundering as compliance and regulatory advisors.
