TikTok’s former director of gaming division Jason Fung has announced that he is leaving the company to launch a startup to integrate video games with the Meta0 blockchain.
Jason Fung says he left “his comfortable corporate life” on TikTok to take a “giant risk” and run GameFi deployment platform – Meta0. Fung said that as part of the project, he intends to ensure the expansion of Meta0 as a holistic ecosystem of game developers, as well as attracting partners and L1 / L2 blockchains to interact with Meta0 as a Layer-0 protocol.
He added that he will lead the startup’s fundraising campaigns, partnerships and other strategic decisions. Fung claims that Meta0 will provide more interoperability between existing blockchains than previously proposed projects. Thanks to this, game developers will be able to integrate the maximum number of blockchains to implement their projects.
“Now when a developer implements NFT or blockchain in their games, they have to choose one network, be it Polygon, Solana or Binance Smart Chain. But imagine a more compatible option,” Fung explained the concept.
He added that he left TikTok to address one of the most common problems in the GameFi industry, the lack of a properly accessible blockchain infrastructure for developers. Like many cryptocurrency startups, Meta0 will raise capital through token sales and negotiations with venture capitalists and strategic investors.
Investors pumped $1 billion into GameFi in January this year alone, a quarter of the amount the industry raised in all of 2021, according to February data from analytics service DappRadar.
