Former Zcash Developer To Lead Twitter Initiative To Decentralize Social Media

Former Zcash and Skuchain developer Jay Graber will lead the Bluesky project aimed at decentralizing social media. The initiative was launched under the leadership of Twitter.

Graber
reported on Twitter that, after working closely with the research and development team, she will take over responsibility for running the Bluesky project. To fulfill the ambitious plan to decentralize social media, the Bluesky team will work closely with Twitter and other companies.

For the first time, this initiative became known in December 2019. Twitter founder Jack Dorsey announced that he is ready to fund developers who will be engaged in the creation of a decentralized standard for social networks, and in the future this standard will become part of Twitter. Dorsey named the main problems facing social networks. The main one is centralized and ineffective measures to combat the spread of illegal and misleading information.

Dorsey previously said that decentralized solutions will allow publishing “healthier and more informative content”, openly managing it and even monetizing it. After Graber was appointed as the head of Bluesky, Dorsey said he hoped the project would start “moving a lot faster and already in code.”

In addition, Dorsey does not rule out the possibility that Twitter or BlueSky may add support for messages via the Lightning Network in the future. Dorsey has long been considered a bitcoin supporter. In June, he hosted The B Word educational conference to educate institutions on how they can incorporate Bitcoin into their business processes.
