With its Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin will meet the Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan. The two will meet this week in Samarkand and discuss the recent conflicts between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Fresh clashes broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia today as international peace efforts intensified, a day after nearly 100 soldiers were killed in the worst hostilities between former Soviet republics since the 2020 war.
“The matter will be discussed with Putin. Because the role played by Russia and Turkey in ending this war and the joint work that followed is evident“, said the official, who wished to remain anonymous.
“THE Turkey initiated contacts to overcome the problem between the two countries. This needs to end before it escalates further,” he said according to the Athens News Agency.
The meeting between Erdogan and Putin, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Uzbekistan, is expected to take place on Friday.
“Turkey will continue to stand by Azerbaijan in every sense,” the official added.
