Four dead and 40 missing in DR Congo shipwreck

At least four people have died and around 40 are missing after an overloaded boat capsized in a river in southwestern Democratic Republic of Congo. “Four bodies have been recovered so far, 79 people have been rescued and about 40 are missing,” Rémy Sacchi, the deputy governor of Quango province, told AFP. According to testimonies, there were about 150 people on board the ship. In this large country in central Africa, barges plying rivers and lakes are often used to transport residents. But they often travel overloaded and consequently the account of shipwrecks is particularly heavy. At the end of July, at least 25 people died when a boat sank in a river in Maniema province. More than 100 people died in a shipwreck on Lake Kivu in 2019. source: APE
