Four foods that help extend life expectancy by 10 years

Recently a study conducted by a Norwegian research team and published in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Food examined this last point in depth, discovering which foods most of all allow you to extend your life expectancy.

Foods that help increase life expectancy by 10 years

Researchers from the universities of Oslo and Bergen set themselves a goal: to determine which foods were most likely to have a positive impact on people’s life expectancy. To do so they have carefully analyzed the data of 467,354 British citizens (men and women), with particular attention to their table habits.

The results showed that the dietary pattern associated with longevity included a high intake of four foods, viz milk and dairy products, vegetables, nuts and legumes. These would be the foods most closely related to longevity, followed by whole grains, fruit, fish and white meat.

In the diet plan associated with longevity, a rather low consumption of eggs, red meat and sugary drinks and an even smaller intake of refined grains and processed meats. «It is important to underline that the estimated gain in life expectancy is about a decade for those transitioning from unhealthier eating patterns to those associated with longevity. Overall, the greater the changes made towards healthier eating patternsthe greater the expected gains in terms of life expectancy will be”, explain the researchers in the conclusion to their study.
