Four people were killed and at least eight injured when a racing car veered off the road and hit spectators at the Esztergom-Nyerges rally on Sunday (24.03.202) in northern Hungary. The vehicle skidded on the wet asphalt and fell at high speed right where there were standing spectators as a result of which four people lost their lives on the spot and two others, among them a child, were hospitalized in a critical condition. The police said that the racing car participating in the Esztergom-Nyerges rally ran off the road and was found among the spectators, but the reasons for its detour are not yet known, it said in a statement. Several ambulances and rescue helicopters arrived at the scene, emergency services reported on the Index.hu news website. The organizers stopped the match. Index.hu reported that one child was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, another person was seriously injured, while six others suffered minor injuries.
