According to government officials, the project is for the entire national territory and will involve actions to combat crime in ports and airports. The program’s guidelines will be detailed in a press conference by the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino.

The National Secretariat of Public Security, the National Secretariat of Justice and the National Secretariat of Drug Policy, as well as the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police, participate in the program.

In an interview with CNN on Thursday (28), the executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Cappelli, said that “organized crime cannot be faced with roses”.

He, however, defended that police lethality must be investigated and combated. “I don’t see a disruption of Public Security in Bahia. It is severe? AND. There is confrontation. He has? Now, the Bahia police are a good police force. Is there a question of lethality? He has. But you don’t face organized crime with a rifle and roses. However, lethality must be investigated and combated,” said Cappelli.

This Friday (29), Capelli met with the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (PL), to also discuss the public security crisis in the State.

Castro confirmed that he requested the transfer of drug traffickers to maximum security prisons. The governor also requested the presence of the National Force in Rio. The measures aim to stifle crime in Complexo da Maré, in the North Zone of Rio.

The initiative came about after the release of a Civil Police investigation that showed, this week, that Complexo da Maré had become a training center for new criminals.

Although the launch takes place at a time when Bahia and Rio are experiencing a public security crisis, members of the Ministry of Justice say that the Program to Combat Organized Crime has been being prepared for four months.
