Chinese cars are steadily gaining popularity among Russian drivers and have been among the best-selling models in the country for several months in a row. Cars from the Celestial Empire are in demand not only in the regions, but also in the capital, as stated in the new report of the analytical agency “AUTOSTAT”, compiled in August based on the data of JSC “Electronic Passport”.
Last month, the best-selling new car in Moscow for the first time in history was a model of a Chinese brand. This is the Haval Jolion crossover, whose sales in August in the capital amounted to 854 units, which is almost eight times more than a year ago.
But the leadership of Haval Jolion is not the only amazing metamorphosis that has happened to the capital’s new car market this year. According to AUTOSTAT, four of the five best-selling cars in Moscow are models with Chinese roots. The second place after Haval Jolion is occupied by Geely Coolray, the sales of which increased seven times during the year to 776 units. In third place with August sales of 382 units is Chery Tiggo 7 Pro. It is followed by Geely Atlas Pro, which found 245 buyers among the residents of the capital over the last month of summer.
Chinese brands have managed to push back the undisputed leader of recent months in the face of the domestic LADA Granta. Last month, this model from AvtoVAZ was chosen by 224 buyers in Moscow, in connection with which it dropped to fifth place in the TOP of best-selling models.
In total, almost 6.4 thousand new cars were sold in Moscow in August. This is 64% less compared to the same period last year. Among the brands, the Chinese Geely became the most popular, followed by Haval in second place and KIA in third. Chery and LADA close the top five.
