Four-year legend Xiaomi Mi A1 gets another variant of Android 11

However, enthusiasts do not abandon the once popular smartphone and have released a new unofficial ShapeShiftOS firmware for it based on the latest Android 11.

At the end of January, Xiaomi Mi A1 was also presented with another firmware based on Android 11 – POSP (Potato Open Source Project). Now users of the legendary smartphone have a choice of how to install Android 11.

ShapeShiftOS firmware is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and, according to the developers, its goal was “to provide a user interface and experience unlike any other firmware on the market.”

Among the advantages of ShapeShiftOS are the ease of installation, Google services and applications, customizable clocks from Android 10, numerous appearance settings. Among the minuses – the lack of updates “over the air”, the lack of illumination of the touch buttons, the lack of additional wallpaper. Another feature is that the Camera application is used in the Go version, which has both pros and cons.

Recall that the smartphone debuted in September 2017 as part of the Android One program – the device does not use the proprietary MIUI shell, but a “pure” version of Android.

It not only became the company’s first Android One phone, but also proved to be very successful. In the fourth quarter of 2017, Xiaomi Mi A1 was not only the best-selling Android One smartphone, it sold two and a half times better than all other devices in the program combined.
