A wild one fox managed to invade her zoo Washington and kill twenty-five pink flamingo and one skewerbecame known today by the management of the institution.
“On the morning of May 2, those in charge of the bird sanctuary found the flamingos dead and spotted a fox,” the Smithsonian National Zoo said, according to AFP.
Before the attack the swarm of flamingos was counting 74 members.
This is a “tragic loss for all those who love animals,” commented the director of the zoo, Brady Smith. “The fence we are using has been successfully inspected and is being used by other zoos across the country,” he said, adding that the goal now is to ensure that security measures will be strengthened so as not to endanger other animals.
The fox managed to escape, according to the APE BPE.
It is worth mentioning that a female fox had upset the American capital in April, when it attacked passers-by near the Capitol and bit an elected official. The fox was euthanized and found to be a carrier of rabies, according to health authorities.
