Frade says he is sorry after running over man in the interior of SP

Friar Gustavo Trindade dos Santos, parish priest of São Sebastião de Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo Parish, in the interior of São Paulo, would be “deeply dismayed and sorry” for having run over a suspect of stealing items from the church, says a note from the Order of Friars Preachers and the Diocese of Ourinho released this Wednesday (11).

The crime took place last Saturday (7) and was caught by security cameras, which show the moment when the car is deliberately thrown at a man passing on the sidewalk.

The suspect, Ângelo Nogueira, was taken to the hospital after being caught red-handed for stealing clothes that would be destined for a church bazaar.

The police were looking for the friar until Tuesday (10), since the car he used to run over the suspect had been found, but he was not.

In the note, the bodies state that “Fr Gustavo is cooperating with the investigations and has made himself available to the Justice for the necessary clarifications and eventual accountability”.

“Given what happened, Friar Gustavo, 37 years old and 1 year of priestly ordination, who began his office less than two months ago, in that parish, was removed from his religious duties and is available to freely cooperate with Justice ”, they complete.
