A priest was stabbed to death at a church in Nice, southern France, Interior Minister Geral Darmanen said in a Twitter message today.
According to him, the priest’s life is not in danger, while the police have arrested the perpetrator.
The attack came as France is voting in the second round of the presidential election.
Nice Mayor Christian Estrozi said in a separate tweet that the perpetrator was facing psychological problems.
For his part, Conservative MP Eric Siotti, who represents the region, wrote in a Twitter message that the priest, whom he named as Father Christoph, received several knives at the Saint-Pierre d’Arene church in Nice.
As he wrote, a nun was injured in the hand, as she snatched the knife from the perpetrator.
“The courage of Sister Marie Claude, who intervened as the perpetrator continued to stab Father Christoph, is impressive,” Siotti wrote.
