France and Germany call on all parties to respect the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine

Germany and France have called on both Ukrainian government forces and Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine to fully respect the ceasefire, according to a joint statement issued by the two countries’ foreign ministries on Thursday.

“We call on the parties to respect the ceasefire and to continue discussions on further steps in the humanitarian field, such as the opening of crossing points and the exchange of prisoners, together with the other conclusions of the 2019 Paris Summit,” it said. in the announcement of the two ministries.

On Wednesday, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for Ukraine and the Contact Group, Miko Kinunen, announced that the Settlement Contact Group for Eastern Ukraine had agreed to return to the Donbas ceasefire. The OSCE statement noted that “the participants expressed their determination to fully comply with the agreement on strengthening the ceasefire regime of July 22, 2020”.
