France: As of today, vaccinations for children over 5 years of age

About 400,000 children aged 5-11 will be vaccinated with the Pfizer pediatric vaccine. Green light for total vaccination of children until early 2022.

Vaccination of children aged 5-11 years with underlying diseases, such as heart disease, chanting, cancer, hepatitis, kidney, diabetes, obesity, as well as those living with high-risk groups or immunocompromised individuals, began today in France. There are an estimated 400,000 children in this category, and the vaccines are special, Pfizer pediatric vaccines, which contain three times less antigens than adults.

For the vaccination of all children aged 5-11 years, the government aspires to have the green light at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022. It has already ordered and is expected to receive in December 2 million Pfizer pediatric vaccines. Children will be vaccinated exclusively by doctors and nurses.

The situation in the country is worrying

Vaccination of children is now a “necessity”, said Prime Minister Jean Castex. Despite the desire to keep schools as open as possible, the situation is worrying: Beyond the fifth wave of the Delta mutation that is sweeping the country, Omicron is now wandering with her new peculiarities in children.

The latest data from the French Public Health on 11 December showed that the incidence of cases under the age of 9 exceeded 6% in the first week of December (601 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). This is the highest percentage per age group in the French population.
