France – coronavirus: Mandatory health pass for teenagers from today

To show off their health pass In order to participate in many activities, teenagers aged 12 to 17 in France will have to start today, Thursday (30/9).

The extension of the demonstration of the health certificate to the teenagers was decided in the context of the country’s efforts to face the pandemic of coronavirus.

This measure has been in force for adult French for almost two months. They must regularly show their pass in the form of a QR code to prove that they have been vaccinated against covid-19, that they have become ill or that they have a recent negative coronavirus test.

From today and teenagers they will be required to show their health card in order to go to a restaurant for example, go to the movies or the pool or take a train ride.

It is not known for how long this obligation will apply. Although the coronavirus epidemic seems to be in recession in France from August, the government is preparing a bill that will extend the use of the health pass after November 15. Paris wants to “maintain the possibility” that this obligation will be extended “until the summer” of 2022, government spokesman Gabriel Atal said yesterday, Wednesday.

Until now, the teenagers were not obliged to have a health pass because their vaccination was late to start. It was only in June that health authorities allowed minors aged 12 to 17 to be vaccinated against covid-19.

Two-thirds of adolescents have been vaccinated with both doses

But now almost two thirds of the teenagers, as broadcast by the Athens News Agency, are fully immunized, while in total 84% of the population in France who can be vaccinated have done so.

The government is trying to further accelerate the immunization of minors by organizing vaccination campaigns in high schools and lyceums after the start of the new school year, although these did not seem to have the desired results as less than 30,000 doses were given.

Vaccination of minors is a sensitive issue and one of the main topics of protest during the weekly anti-health protests in France. However, fewer and fewer people participate in them. Last Saturday, about 64,000 people took part in such demonstrations across France, up from 237,000 at the movement’s climax on August 7, according to the Interior Ministry.

The government has also made some concessions to minors, who, unlike unvaccinated adults, will still be able to take free molecular tests after October 15.
