The suspect who attacked with a knife and seriously injured a municipal police officer on Friday (28/5) in Chapelle-sur-Erdr, near Nantes (western France) is dead, according to a source in the case.
Earlier, the gendarmerie had announced his arrest after an exchange of gunfire during which two gendarmes were injured, mainly in the hand and arm. “The suspect had a ‘hybrid’ profile, had become radicalized and was suffering from a serious psychological illness,” according to this source and as broadcast by the Athens News Agency.

The policewoman, whose life is in danger, was injured at the headquarters of the municipal police of Sappel-sur-Erdr.
The possibility of a terrorist act has not yet been confirmed. The Nantes prosecutor’s office, contacted by AFP, did not follow up.
Eighty gendarmes were deployed to locate the perpetrator, who escaped with a police officer’s gun.
Two helicopters, three teams of police dogs and a motorized detachment of the Gendarmerie took part in the search. The investigation was assigned to the investigation department of the Gendarmerie.
