France: far-right Eric Zemour to announce his candidacy for the presidency later in the day

Eric Zemour, a polarizing figure of the French far right, will announce his candidacy in the presidential election later in the day, a source close to his entourage told the French Agency on Monday.

A video containing a “message to the French” will be “posted on social networking sites” before making a TV appearance at 20:00 (local time · 21:00 Greek time) on the private TV network TF1, the source clarified, confirming information that they had already several French media.

Ubiquitous in public debate since September, the former journalist saw his popularity rise, which alarmed Marin Lepen, the National Alarm candidate (far right), whose presence in the second round has so far been taken for granted.

But the essayist’s informal campaign is already facing difficulties. In the polls he remains stagnant, halls refuse to welcome him, he is criticized for lack of organization and in his tours in the province he is disapproved.

A few days ago, he raised his middle finger in return for a gesture passing through Masalia (south), an incident whose photos caused a stir, forcing Mr. Zemour to admit that he behaved in an “inelegant” way.

According to a poll broadcast yesterday Sunday, it is credited for the first round (to be held on April 10, 2022) from 14 to 15% of the voting intentions, behind Marin Le Pen (around 19%) and President Emanuel Macron (25%) ).

Eric Zemour is scheduled to appear on December 5 at a public gathering in the Zénith Great Hall. This will be his first pre-election rally.
