France hospitals close to collapse, Macron televised in the afternoon

The third wave of his pandemic coronavirus rapidly evolving threatens to collapse in France’s hospitals, and French President Emmanuel Macron will address a televised address to the public this afternoon.

The Palace of the Elysium did not specify whether the Macron will announce further restrictions on the treatment of the coronavirus that has cost the lives of nearly 100,000 people in France.

Yesterday, the number of patients with COVID-19 in the ICU increased by 98 and exceeded the barrier of 5,000 – the highest number for this year, as underlined by AMPE.

Public health experts say the fact that ICUs are so overcrowded is an indication that the current restrictive measures are not sufficient.

In France, there is a night traffic ban from mid-December and in parts of the country, including the capital, the movement of citizens is limited and some unnecessary shops have been closed.

Bars, restaurants and cinemas have been closed for months.

Pending the presidential sermon, the mayor of the capital, Ann Indalgo, told BFM that schools should be closed.

Macron will chair later today the weekly meeting of the COVID board.
