Households and businesses need to reduce energy consumption “immediately” in order to be better prepared this winter to deal with an impending energy crisis, warn the heads of French energy giants Engie, EDF and TotalEnergies through the Sunday Journal du Dimanche.
“We need to work together to reduce our consumption in order to regain room for maneuver,” the French companies said in an open letter, citing a sharp drop in gas supplies from Russia and limited electricity production in Europe due to maintenance problems.
“Taking action from the summer onwards will allow us to be better prepared for the beginning of next winter, especially in terms of conserving gas reserves,” they said.
