France: Macron to address “moderate” parties for majority in parliament

The French government will address all moderate parties to secure a majority in parliament after French President Emmanuel Macron’s faction lost an absolute majority in today’s second round of parliamentary elections, a government spokeswoman said.

“We are reaching out to those who want to move the country forward,” said Olivia Gregoire.

If this result is confirmed, it will be a major blow for Macron, who will need to look for allies to implement his reform agenda he plans for the next five years.

The first-class executives of the French president who are not elected

There are many government officials of Emanuel Macron who remain outside the French parliament, according to the results of the second round of parliamentary elections so far.

Richard Ferrand, the speaker of the National Assembly and a close ally of President Emanuel Macron, admitted tonight that he had lost the parliamentary elections to the candidate of the left-wing Nupes coalition. “I just learned the results show that the voters in the 6th district of Finistère chose to vote for my opponent,” Melanie Tomen told reporters.

Christoph Kastaner, the former interior minister, also announced that he would not be elected.

Health Minister Brigitte Bourguignon is expected to lose her seat in parliament, the French television channel France 2 TV reported, citing estimates of the results.

Traditionally, ministers who fail to get elected are called upon to resign from the government.
