France: Macron’s far-right opponent considers coronavirus fears excessive

The opinion that the fears about the coronavirus are excessive was expressed on Monday (22/11) by the French, far right and possible candidate for the presidential elections in France, Eric Zemour.

Zemour’s position contradicts the stance of many European governments, which are restricting the movement of citizens to fight a fifth wave of the pandemic with the Austria enters a total lockdown today.

«We need to bring this epidemic back to normal. We have taken great advantage of people’s fears. “We have overdone it and we are doing it from the beginning,” he told France Info radio station, as broadcast by the Athens News Agency.

Zemour, the polls and Le Pen

Polls show Zemour battling corporate far-right politician Marie Le Penφ, from the party “National Alarm” for the second place and therefore for the second round in the elections of the next year against the outgoing president Emanuel Macron who comes first in the polls.

Polls show Macron as a possible winner in the second round.

Zemour, who is known for his extremist views on issues such as immigration, Islam and national identity, said he would suggest a booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine only to those over 65, as opposed to Recommendation of the French regulatory authorities for vaccination with the third dose those over 40.

He also said that he would aim to abolish the health pass that is now used in France as proof of vaccination in order for someone to enter bars, restaurants, museums and sports venues.

Zemour spent last weekend in London “flirting” with the large French expatriate population in the city. He is expected to confirm his candidacy for the presidency on December 5th.
