France: “Massage” from Bourne to the opposition for the pension

THE French Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne has planned to receive in the week of April 3 the parliamentary groups and political parties, including the opposition, as well as representatives of collectives, with the aim “to bring peace to the country”she said in an interview with Agence France-Presse.

One schedule of possible meetings with trade unions and employers’ organizations is also taking shape next week, the prime minister said.

It is recalled that demonstrations and violent incidents shock her France after the adoption on March 16, without a vote in the National Assembly, of the controversial reform to raise the retirement age. Two months after the start of the mobilization against this law, a new day of protests is planned for Tuesdaywith the government and unions warning of the risk of “chaos”.

“There must be an appeasement,” Bourne said, rejecting a request by the head of the CFDT, France’s first union, Laurent Berger, to suspend the implementation of the reform.

The reform was adopted and will “follow its course” until the Constitutional Council gives its opinion, at the end of which the president of the Republic “must issue the law”, as provided for in the Constitution, said Born.

Although use of Article 49.3 for the adoption of this reform sparked the protest movement, the Prime Minister now states that she wishes to no longer use this controversial article of the French Constitution, which allows a bill to be passed by the National Assembly without a vote, except for finance. “The target I set for the future is not 49.3 except for financial texts,” he said.

Charged by President Emmanuel Macron to build a government program and a legislative program, Elizabeth Bourne clarifies that she will “develop” to do this an “action plan” in the next three weeks “which enlists all the actors who want to move (the) country forward”. “We really want to prioritize some issues so that we can quickly present concrete results to the French,” he stressed.
