New violent incidents broke out in western France, while the situation remains unsettled in the wake of nationwide anti-pension protests that led to the cancellation of King Charles’ planned visit to Paris.
“While the country is rising up to defend pensions, we are at the same time defending the good of water,” said protesters holding banners reading “Bassines non merci” (Bassines non merci) in Saite-Soline.
The construction site in the area turned into a battleground between activists who threw explosives and 3,000 police officers.

Up to 6,000 people took part in the protest according to local authorities and around 25,000 according to the organizers.
Eleven people were arrested while the police confiscated explosives and knives.
The protest movement against pension reform has turned into the biggest domestic crisis of Macron’s second term, with daily clashes on the streets of Paris and other cities between police and protesters.
