France: No to excluding the EU from US-Russian negotiations on Ukraine

The European Union should not be excluded from talks on Ukraine, French Foreign Minister Clement Bonn said today, a day before the start of talks between the US and Russia in Geneva, after weeks of tension over the deployment of Russian troops on the border. with Ukraine.

“Europeans should not be absent from the negotiating table,” Bonn told CNEWS.

On Friday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Moscow was trying to bypass the EU by negotiating directly with Washington over Ukraine.

Bonn today called on leaders not to fall into the trap of, as he called it, Russia.

As early as Friday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emanuel Macron had insisted on the need for Europeans to be at the negotiating table with Russians and Americans on security in Europe.
