France-Parliament: Leading center-left ‘long-standing’ Ensemble alliance by half a percentage point

The center-right party that backs the political agenda of French President Emanuel Macron is narrowly ahead of its left-wing rival in the run-up to Sunday’s parliamentary elections, according to a poll by Ipsos and CEVIPOF institutes published today by the newspaper Le Monde.

The French-friendly Ensemble (“Together”), which includes the center-right parties, as well as center-right and center-left forces, is said to be gaining 28% of the vote in the first round, up from 27.5 % of the NUPES (“New People’s Ecological and Social Union”) alliance of Jean-Luc Melanson, which includes from the Socialist Party and the Ecologists to the radical Left and the French Communist Party.

The difference between the two factions is within the statistical error limit (± 1.1%).

Parliamentary elections are being held in France in two rounds, on 12 and 19 June.

The center-right is expected to secure 275 to 315 seats in the National Assembly (it needs 289 to have a majority), according to the poll.
