France – Parliamentarians: Macron camp may not control new National Assembly (poll)

The center-right alliance, which politically backs re-elected French President Emmanuel Macron, will go to the polls next Sunday with 27% of the vote, but is unsure if it will have a parliamentary majority.

In particular, according to a poll by Ifop, the “Together” faction, which includes formations of the Center, the Center-Right, but also the Center-Left, will win at least 275 seats and at most 310 in the new National Assembly (lower body of the French parliament) which will occur after the second round of parliamentary elections on June 19.

A parliamentary majority requires at least 289 seats out of a total of 577.

As for Jean-Luc Melanson’s Left Popular Union (NUPES), which unites the radical Left, environmentalists, socialists and communists, it is estimated that in the first round it will receive 25% of the vote and after the second round it will have at least 170 and at most 205 seats. This is the first time that a poll in France has suggested that the People’s Union could have more than 200 seats.

In terms of votes, the third place is occupied by Marin Lepen’s party with 21%, winning at least 20 and at most 50 seats, while in fourth place come the center-right Goliaths “Republicans”, who with 10% (and due to the election system) will have at least 35 and at most 55 seats.

Finally, according to the same poll, 41% of respondents believe that the party that supports the central president Macron will win in the first round of parliamentary elections, while 61% say they would like a “cohabitation” in power, led by Macron and prime minister-government from another political field.
