The decision to ban until the end of January the online sales of products based on paracetamol France took on Wednesday (4/1) as there are still difficulties in supplying the ingredient used in painkillers.
“Online sale of paracetamol-only products suspended until 31 January 2023“, the French government said in its decree.
This decision was taken due to “the ongoing problems for more than six months with paracetamol-based medicines”, mainly those intended for children.
“The various measures taken by the health authorities, however effective, have so far not allowed to overcome” the problems, the government admitted.
For many months now, the National Medicines Safety Authority (ANSM) has asked France’s pharmacies to give a certain amount of paracetamol to each patient.
In December, the French Ministry of Health, as reported by the Athens News Agency, warned that despite these measures, the situation remains “complex” and will not be resolved before many weeks pass.
In its decree, the French government highlighted the worsening health situation in China, where the number of covid cases has exploded after the sudden lifting of health restrictions.
The Chinese government banned the export of paracetamol, large quantities of which it exported to pharmaceutical companies around the world.
The problems with paracetamol fit into a wider context drug shortagesin France and other countries, such as for example amoxicillin.
