Pre-candidate for the state government of São Paulo, Márcio França (PSB) declared this Monday (27) that his pre-candidacy is maintained, despite pressure from the PT to give up in favor of Fernando Haddad (PT). If France gives up on running for the government of São Paulo, he must run for a state Senate seat.
He met this Monday night at the PSB’s headquarters, in Brasília, with coreligionists to discuss articulations and the distribution of resources from the party’s electoral fund, of R$ 268 million. In addition to the national president of the PSB, Carlos Siqueira, party leaders such as Renato Casagrande, Beto Albuquerque, João Campos, Rodrigo Rollemberg and Paulo Câmara were present.
“Yes, of course, of course [que a minha candidatura está mantida]. Even because we were with our own [ex-] President Lula and I told him that. (…) The ideal would be that we were all together”, said França.
The PSB’s pre-candidate wants his party and the PT to analyze the voting intention polls and not only consider who is in front now, but also the potential of each, to define the eventual unique name in São Paulo.
France met, last week, with former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who wants to return to the Planalto in the October election. He denied that Lula had asked him to give up trying to get elected to the Bandeirantes Palace.
The president of the PSB, Carlos Siqueira, is still going to talk to the president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, so that the decision can be taken jointly. A decision also tends to depend on negotiations with PT members in other states.
Siqueira affirmed that the electoral disputes between PSB and PT must be decided “as a block”. That is, there should be no one-off decisions over the next few weeks, including the situation in France. He cited July 19 as the deadline for all these terms to be defined.
The deputy on Lula’s ticket is Geraldo Alckmin, a former chief of the PSDB who is now affiliated with the PSB.
The party is studying prioritizing 80% of the resources for candidates of the proportional system, such as federal deputies, especially São Paulo and Pernambuco.
In the forecast that the state directories sent to the PSB summit, the estimated expenses already reach about double the R$ 268 million available.
