France: The EU will adopt the minimum corporate tax in the coming months

EU countries will adopt plans for the minimum corporate tax in the bloc in the coming months, regardless of whether Hungary supports the reform, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Mer said today, as reported by Reuters.

Hungary objected at the last minute earlier this month to the European Union adopting a minimum corporate tax rate of 15%, blocking an agreement that would turn a global reform into a law across the European Union.

“The minimum tax will be implemented in the coming months with or without the support of Hungary,” Le Mer said at a news conference on the French EU presidency, which ends on Thursday.

Le Merre added that he was working with EU Economic Affairs Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni on a legal alternative that would allow Member States to bypass Hungary’s veto problem.
