French Industry Minister Agnès Panier-Rinasser tested positive for covid-19 at a time when France is facing a large number of infections, with about 50,000 new cases being detected every day.
“After I was informed today that I was in contact with a case, I immediately took a test, which came out positive in covid-19. I have been isolated and I continue my duties as a minister from afar,” Panier-Rinasser wrote on Twitter.
According to her office, “the minister has no symptoms and is feeling well.”
The French Public Health Service announced yesterday Sunday that 48,473 new cases of covid-19 were detected in the country in the previous 24 hours, with the daily average of the last seven days exceeding 52,000 infections.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 121,493 people have succumbed to the disease.
Currently 15,528 patients are hospitalized, a number that has almost doubled in one month, of which 2,936 in intensive care units.
After the temperature dropped, the epidemic began to re-emerge in France, before the coronavirus Omicron strain, which is more contagious than the current Delta, spread to the country.
The French government intends to encourage even more citizens to get vaccinated against covid-19, by quickly promoting its bill which replaces the health pass with a vaccine pass. He hopes the bill will be passed before the end of January, to be implemented “immediately after”, government spokesman Gabriel Atal said yesterday.
At the same time, the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 will be extended as soon as possible.
According to official figures, in France 52,509,598 million people (out of a total population of 67 million) have received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine and 51,445,380 have been fully immunized, ie 76.3% of the population. At the same time, 19.2 million booster doses have been administered.
